Azores - Horta
Our next port of call was Horta in the Azores. This is a group of islands in the mid-Atlantic Ocean. Horta was also the site of a big volcanic eruption some years ago which left an indelible mark on the landscape. A sixty foot or so tall lighthouse was rendered useless because, as a consequence of the eruption, half of the structure was submerged in volcanic ash as can been seen below.
